Humming birds

Making Your Own Hummingbird and Oriole Nectar

You can make your own hummingbird nectar by following this recipe:
  1. Boil 4 parts water.
  2. Mix 1 part ordinary white granulated sugar.
  3. Stir and allow the mixture to cool.
  4. When the nectar is room temperature, fill your clean hummingbird feeder.
You can make your own oriole nectar by following this recipe:
  1. Boil 6 parts water.
  2. Mix 1 part ordinary white granulated sugar.
  3. Stir and allow the mixture to cool.
  4. When the nectar is room temperature, fill your clean oriole feeder.
Tips:
  1. Never use red dyes or food coloring, as they are not healthy for hummingbirds or orioles.
  2. Never use honey when making your nectar mix. Honey attracts bees and can grow black fungus that will cause a fatal liver and tongue disease in hummingbirds.
  3. Replace the nectar once every three to four days and clean the feeder thoroughly.
  4. Unused nectar can be refrigerated for up to two weeks.

6 Cheap At-Home Workouts!

Pedometers:
Many people have treadmills in their homes, but sometimes the workout can get boring. I recommend investing in a pedometer that counts steps. A person can carry the pedometer with them during the course of a day with the goal of walking 5,000-10,000 steps (2,000 steps is equivalent to one mile). Whatever steps are not completed during the course of the day can be done on the treadmill. This makes working out less drudgery.

Bodybars:
A bodybar is a great tool for working out at home. A good one for home use would be a 4-foot bar. The bodybar is a weighted bar with foam cushioning for added comfort. The bar weighs nine pounds, is under 30 dollars and can be used for squats, lunges, overhead presses, biceps curls, triceps extensions and chest presses while lying on the floor.

Medicine Balls:
These unique and versatile balls help to develop muscular strength, increase stability and help with joint integrity. They can weight up to 12 pounds or more and can be used to simulate free weights, as well as be used to perform unorthodox movements in the privacy of one’s home. For example, walking lunges while holding a medicine ball over one’s head helps with lower and upper body strength. One can also perform isolation exercises for each area of the body.

Dumbbells:
Dumbbells can be purchased for the home and one can invest in a safe material such as neoprene or vinyl. This will help to protect household items of value and allow one to get a good overall body workout. Dumbbells can be purchased for 50 cents per pound and up. The lighter neoprene and vinyl dumbbells are also good for aerobic tapes that incorporate light free weights.

Resistance bands:
Resistance bands are small, inexpensive and an extremely effective exercise tool. One can work the entire body with all types of resistance exercises. It provides for a perfect home workout. I also recommend that door attachments be purchased for additional exercises. One should pay attention to the various colors of bands to determine weight resistance. In most cases, yellow is three pounds, green is five to six pounds and red is approximately 10 pounds of resistance.

Videos:
There are many types of videos from aerobic dance, Pilates, yoga and aerobic/weight training combinations. Along with one of the recommendations above for resistance training, one can perform two days of resistance and two days of an aerobic-type video. This provides for a balance of strength training and aerobics.

Riding the Wave or sinking in it
......

...sometimes i can feel both ....some days just sinking...once and a while riding...(smile) love those moments...but truthfully.. as long as i keep trying, i will get better. There is no lying....its darn hard work. i could work even harder...but to get to the harder...i first got to work ...and then work hard, and then work harder, and so on...one ride at a time but getting better all the while. The other day i was challenged to "ride" again. For me that ride would be running. i am loving kickbo ....but remember ..i want to run. i want to be a good runner. i want to run with you rUnners. So i must start again. Its hard work that running and going to kickbo and don't forget life...gee wizz haha ....but riding those waves is sooo much fun.

Guess i better go slip into my runners...no time like the present.

edit: pant pant ....well i am faster ....but mercy my lunges thought they would explode!!! walk run walk run walk run.... i just got to keep at it.

This is a post i wrote a couple days ago... today is my 'rUn around the block day', maybe i will time it....hahaha see if i can beat it next run.

hun i think we should try it ...

THINK WE SHOULD TRY IT WITH THE STANG?

Can you imagine some guy going 90 mph on the interstate with these balloons
trailing about a few yards behind him? Instructions for a fun time around town.................... Step 1. Tie balloons to car.
Step 2. Drive like a bat out of hell....
Step 3. Watch people freak out !!!

Last nights supper.....Indian Butter Chicken. I bought this pack from Bert's deli. Highly recommended...simple to put together...and has an amazing flavor. Very good.
Thanks Jen for sharing your wonderful recipe.*smile*also a terrific left over lunch

KICKBO or KICKBO BALL...either is the best....

Sunday, May 13, 2007

peacefully ....quiet....

this is the end of my mothers day....and i must say ....it was one of the better ones.

We had a Mothers day alright. For lunch we had the in-laws over, minus one little clan of wiebelettes due to the weeks un-rest. Thankfully we had nice weather, cus it was hot-doggies and smokies for the grand momma meal. Is that bad or what? invite everyone over for a Mothers Day treat.. the treat...weinners!? humm...i didn't mean for it to be such a nasty meal. (no wonder the little clan didn't come - so sorry fellow wiebe women) Well there was coffee and water. (that always does it for me, although just me...as i am the only wiebe girl to drink java) Thank you Jaime for bringing some juice, i noticed my Ben sucking it back like there was no tomorrow. geewizz.... Anyways the watermelon went over really well and the fresh pineapple although a bit over its due date was still pretty good. Love fresh fruit, especially outside..yum...

The
'dessert'...smores...could have been great, (first of the season) but blasted-walmart didn't have "jet puffs" just "value ick"..and those marshmallows tasted awful. i may have a more sensitive palate then some, but dang they could've been a great thing ..and it just wasn't...although...the
chocolate was very good indeed.

Anyhow it was very nice to be outside and sit in the smoke. (hehe) My sweet husband made me an outside table earlier in the day.
Quite crudely built, but extremely tough, exactly what we needed out there. i love it.

the new one vers the old one

Humm speaking of quite ..er... rather quiet..it is very qUIEt around here...(evil little laugh-yet a very happy one) there is a lovely hush around wiebeville...not a rooster noise around. (well the one we left to guard the flock is sleeping with his girls, but if he so much as makes a peep from 10:00pm - 8:00am he will be gone too!!)

YES it was a red neck mothers day around here, hopefully all the in-law women won't have nightmares of the whole act.

After lunch, ...husband says "well you going to help me?"...oh yeah. So i caught em...husband whacked em. the barrel is full. the deed done. hahaha aren't we terrible ?? yikes... it was sooo time!! no doubt..just not sure why we chose to at the moment we did?...the true red neck in us just got the better of us....dang roosters look what they made us into....

So neighbors HAPPY QUIET MOTHERS DAY!! Sorry it took us so long to get rid of all the noise pollution.

ahhh ...silence... it sounds so good. so very good indeed.

We took a few pictures to help re-live some of the moments.
enjoy ...i know i will....*smile*

lalala.....done the deed and i am soo happy, the deed is done and i ain't crying...lalala
(its a song)

i can't imagine why everyone left??

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY

Saturday, May 12, 2007

saturday...

This morning i showered did my hair put on a little make-up, worn my dragon fly earrings, the ones Jaime gave me for my birthday..and put on my spring blue dress...the lovely little vintage one i got with my buds last year. Don't you just love a fresh start to a new day?

i am reminded today my twins would be 10 months old. At the pool waiting for my Ben to come out..i watched a 'tots' class...beautiful babes.. all ages ... so sweet..

i spent the afternoon with Alley..that was such fUn. We did pass through the farmers market. It is full of baked foods and some plantin' plants all which we passed rather quickly. hehe.... maybe by next week i will be ready for some tomato plants?? Then we can browse a bit with purpose..lol We did linger all day at shops...haha we tried on so many clothes.. sadly i can not remember the last time we did that. ..we will again soon. (*thanks Alley*)

i am so blessed to have the sUn out today...very nice..promising ...well at least very enjoyable.

Sirena brought me a lovely package today. One i will enjoy reading over...a garlic cookbook. nice eh? Its title, "Garlic- A sumptuous selection of gastronomic gems" lol isn't that too funny?! It was waiting for me when i returned home from swimming. thank you girl.

My little family is busy this and thating ... no one feels especially motivated...hehe except me who has an endless list of jobs for everyone. (especially for my wonderful husband...hehe) so a dump run is being made as i type. Other than that i think we will watch the hockey game and call it a day... i did mention clean the spare room, move a fridge, shovel out some flower beds...weinner roast? ... family over?....or or or or. His eyes kinda rolled back and i believe there was twitching happening....needless to say he looked so relieved to not have any plans and wasn't about to make new ones.
This has been very busy and somewhat draining week so i guess a less busy evening will be granted. (smile)...yeah its nice to not have to 'do' anything tonight.

i miss my brother today...i always miss him but today i miss him more. Its been a while since we had a long chat...actually any chat.. (that wasn't even a hint. it could even be called a demand. hehe) i love him so much. He is sooo soooo soooo busy right now. filming . i smile to think he is not just dreaming it ...he is making it. "good at you greg"
i hope Cornwell is treating you very good, but i do need a visit...a chat will do ...iffen you can't make it home for your birthday. smile.

i haven't gone for a rUn in a few weeks...i have been pretty sore coming out of kickbo or kickbo
ball. three times last week..whoot whoot...wow ...do or die. i think both! its awesome. i highly recommend it.

....my head has been sore since i got up....just reminding me it is there .. jabbing a bit more since i got home...arg..i may need back-up soon. ..ibuprofen come on over.

well thats it for now.... Go Canada ...(Ottawa senators are still in the playoffs- sure would be nice if Canada won)

in my dreams i am sleeping... maybe i am tired?

Thursday, May 10, 2007

....an update ...

what a day.

started at 6:30am

without sharing to much info we had an appointment at 7:00am which took us home at 11:30am

racing around town for hours....getting the things we need.

enjoyed getting my brother his soccer stuff....his first practice. a long wait. at least 3 years.

home time?....no

the worst part of a long day.. 'being told' a dear friend had past away.

she didn't

miscommunication, on the "tellers" end.

thank God.

what an awful feeling............. mercy ..............i bawled when i saw her.

i do love living.. and i love that those around me... those that are special to me, those that are in my world are here living.

today started early.....and is finishing late.

Tuesday, May 08, 2007

Well busy busy busy has really begun!!!! A whoot whoot for the spring/summer activities!!

Did it snow where you were? Happy belated birthday Alley..whoot whoot..

So i finally made a menu plan for the week:

*Monday: roast chicken with soft white-Buns(from save-on.. sorry) and marble cheese. salad available.

*Tuesday
: bbq hamburgers and wholewheat buns, carrot sticks...maybe some small berry smoothies..

*Wednesday: shepherds pie...my family's favorite. (blah not mine) with salad...maybe i will have a chef's salad ...yeah, yum with pollack on top.

*Thursday: butter chicken and brown rice..might have jasmine instead? ..and fresh pod peas.

*Friday: homemade ww pizza simple kind...pepperoni, "wiebe-canadian", and maybe a greek.

*Saturday: leftovers right?!! haha or hotdog roast. (my husband has banned the word weiner..or weinnie roast...so we have Hotdog roasts...)

*Sunday: Mother's Day..humm might have to think this one through....but i am thinking of making waffles wiebe style-- yummy fresh fruit, blueberries & strawberries, and canned peaches.. 2 kinds cream, whipped and homemade pudding...maybe some sausage...ok bacon.
hey what can i say ?! its a favorite around here...and we usually only have it for some special occasion, so its real good.

in the storm....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7h4qNNWGq-8

i am always amazed how so many people can be touched from a song. this song is new to me...but the words aren't .. not one. The verse "i lift my eyes to the hills ...where does my help come from... my help comes from You maker of heaven and earth" has been a source of strength for many years....
We all have hurts and sometimes its between only you and God. As 'brothers and sisters' we can come along aside of one another. And there is much to be said for ministering siblings.... Gods continuing grace, mercy and strength, be with those who freely give of themselves in the storm of our lives....
but when everyone is gone home....and its alone time.... i am so glad my Father is there, always reminding me, my grief He shares as well. thank you Lord.....

this is for you... fellow soldiers... as we march on.....

edit: thanks to Sirena who shared this special song with us on her blog.

taken from a blog i read recently.....

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

A list of the last words some people (N)ever said.

You'll be perfectly safe behind this much shielding.

It's so tame you can put your head in its mouth.

It was fresh just last week.

These are the safe kind of mushrooms.

It should be ok to swim in.

Clip the red wire first.

It's supposed to make that noise.

It's pretty much grounded.

It doesn't look like the bridge is out.

They only attack when they're hungry.

I can hold my breath at least that long.

I bet I can fit in there.

I'm sure it will support my weight.

It's just a few scattered lightning bolts.

We should be out of range here.

Aren't these bear cubs cute?

Hey guys, watch this...

The tide's not that strong.

That's just a water snake.

Are those killer bees?

If I could just reach a little higher..

We'll be safe as long as we stay here..

They'll never expect us to do that.

Let's make a run for it

It's ok. I have a reserve chute.

I can jump from this high. It's into water.

INGREDIENTS:
25 medium fresh jalapeños
peppers
1 (8 ounce) package cream
cheese, softened
3 cups finely shredded
Cheddar cheese
1 1/2 teaspoons
Worcestershire sauce
4 bacon strips, cooked and
crumbled
DIRECTIONS:
1. Cut jalapenos in half lengthwise; remove seeds and membranes. In a large saucepan, boil peppers in water for 5-10 minutes (the longer you boil the peppers, the milder they become). Drain and rinse in cold water; set aside.
2. In a small mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese, cheddar cheese and Worcestershire sauce. Spoon 2 teaspoonfuls into each jalapeno half; sprinkle with bacon. Place on a greased baking sheet. Bake at 400 degrees F for 5-10 minutes or until cheese is melted. Serve warm.

Introducing the Banana Guard.....

ok i know this could have some brows raised...or some, not so far snickers (actually just over the fence) ....but i saw this banana guard yesterday and it works really well. No more bruises on your lovely banana. Eating it at work or on the go, can be as nice as eating it at home. Lots of colors to choose from.

i can not comment too much about the Banana Guard for fear of the over amount of ill humor which could easily arise from it. *yikes* But i will be purchasing the Banana Guard none the less. If you want me to order you as well let me know. Check out their site... Banana Guards are roughly $7.00
happy eating bruise free....
